The International Roaming Biennial of Tehran is an itinerant multimedia art exhibition. The Biennial is curated and organised by Amir Ali Ghassemi and Serhat Köksal.

The curators had the idea of a low cost itinerant biennial as critic to the present art situation in Tehran and also to the "biennalization" process which is happening at international level. The theme for the First International Roaming Biennial of Tehran is ''Urban Jealousy''. Though the biennial was conceived as resident in Tehran, it will, in fact, roam for exhibitions other cities until May 2010. In its itinerant development the biennial has realized in 2008 two exhibitions: the first in Istanbul, Turkey (Hafriyat Karaköy, May 30 - June 6, 2008), and the second in Berlin (various spaces, November 20 - December 7, 2008). In this biennial have been featured works created by more than 300 international artists.

    The meaning of 2008 Biennial

The topic of the Biennial is "Urban Jealousy". A jealousy is a kind of window where you can see without being seen: this situation represents, in the idea of the curators, the condition of many Tehran artists, a limit which permits to observe the world without being involved. In this way Iranian artists try to give us a metaphor of how appears the world seen through their very particular Iranian "window": the national, ethnical and political context of Iran. The exhibition has various section: painting, graphic, poster, video, photography, installation, sound, objects, created by international established and emerging artists.

Artists exhibiting at the First Tehran Roaming Biennial include: Gary Farrelly, Clara Diebler, Troy Henriksen, and renowned international artists such as Pipilotti Rist, Caterina Davinio, Genco Gulan, Gustavo Aguerre, Stefano Pasquini, and others.
