    The Revolutionary Council was a body formed before the Islamic Revolution in 1979 and its operations were kept secret for some time due to security reasons. Some of members of the Revolutionary Council were Morteza Motahhari, Seyed Mahmoud Taleghani, Mohammad Javad Bahonar, Mohammad Beheshti, and Valiollah Gharani who died or were killed during the early years of the revolution. Imam Khomeini announced the formation of the Revolutionary Council on Jan, 12, 1979.Mehdi Bazargan, Ahmad Sadr Haj Seyyed Javadi, Yadollah Sahabi, Sadegh Ghotbzadeh, Abolhasan Banisadr, Ali Akbar Moinfar, Habibollah Peyman, and Mir Hossein Mousavi were other members of the Revolutionary Council who gradually became unwanted people inside the regime.Hasemi Rafsanjani, Mousavi Ardebili, Seyyed Ali Khamenei, Mohammad Reza Mahdavi Kani, Mostafa Katirayi, Ali Asghar Masoudi, and Hasan Habibi are other known members of the Revolutionary Council. The Revolutionary Council approved formation of Revolutionary Guards on Apr, 22, 1979.After formation of the Parliament, Mohammad Hosseini Beheshti announced on July, 3, 1980 that the Revolutionary Council was going to dissolve in 2 weeks.
