    The third National Consultative Assembly elections after Iranian Revolution was held on 8 April 1988 and the first meeting was held on 29 May 1988. Parliament Speaker was Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani until his election as president. Then Mehdi Karroubi became the Speaker.The deputy speakers were Hossein Hashemian and Asadollah Bayat-Zanjani. The number of members who were of clerical origin was 77.

    In this period and after revision of the constitution, the name of the National Consultative Assembly officially changed to the Islamic Consultative Assembly.
