CroatianIranian relations refer to bilateral foreign relations between Croatia and Iran. Both countries established diplomatic relations on April 18, 1992 when Iran became the 7th country to recognize the newly independent Croatia. Croatia has an embassy in Tehran and Iran maintains an embassy and a cultural centre in Zagreb.

History

Iranian vice-president Hassan Habibi visited Croatia in 1995 and Iranian president Mohammad Khatami visited Zagreb, Croatia in 2005. Croatian president Stipe Mesić had a three-day state visit to Iran in 2001. In 2008 Iranian president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad hailed the two countries''. Ahmadinejad calls for expansion of Iran-Croatia ties. During the same year, the Croatian national oil company INA expanded active in the Ardabil Province. However, on March 22, 2012, Deputy Minister of Foreign and European Affairs Joško Klisović announced sanctions on all oil transactions from Iran.
