Khalkhal city is located in the south of Ardabil province. The city boundaries are Kosar in north, Gilan on East, Zanjan on south, and Miyaneh on west. Khalkhal is in a mountainous region like a barrier between the Caspian Sea province of Gilan and Azerbaijan.
