UN agency established in Geneva in 1948 which promotes improving health conditions for people around the world with the following goals:
-Providing a clearinghouse for information on the latest developments in disease and health care and establishes international sanitary standards and quarantine measures.
-Sponsoring measures for the control of epidemic and endemic disease (including immunization campaigns and assistance in providing sources of pure water).
-Encouraging the strengthening of public-health programs in member nations.
