CASPIAN's efforts are directed at educating consumers, condemning marketing strategies that invade shoppers' privacy, and encouraging privacy-conscious shopping habits. CASPIAN also spreads information and opinions that purport to warn the public about the privacy risks associated with universal adoption of RFID technology. CASPIAN refers to RFID tags as "Spychips. CASPIAN refers to RFID tags as "spychips."

CASPIAN was founded in October 1999 by Katherine Albrecht.

Microchips and Cancer Report

In November 2007, CASPIAN released a research report Microchip-Induced Tumors in Laboratory Rodents and Dogs: A Review of the Literature 1990–2006 by Katherine Albrecht, Ed.D. which is a meta-study of previous research. The report states "between 0.8% and 10.2% of laboratory mice and rats developed malignant tumors around or adjacent to the microchips."
